Our troops

Frank Smokke Fox The idea of two fans to built a cannon came into being in 1994. We started to act after beginning irresolute thoughts. Here is necessary to remind big help of The Police´s Town Sharpshooters Guard, especcialy their armourer Jaroslav Saifert. We wouldn´t have the most important part – steel muzzle. It was made in today´s already extinct iron-foundry in Police nad Metují.
The first cannon was producing and the base for our troop in today´s form was arising after first amteurish test shooting. The number of members settled on three men.
Tenkrát ve Stonetownu Initially nameless troop searched an example in history close to our hearts and we found it in Cherokee Light Artillery of the state Georgia 1861 – 1865. You can see us also as Prussian guardsmen cannoners of Prussia-Austrian wars 1866 and as a part of Battery of Austerlitz in the uniforms of Austrian cannoneers from 1805.
The next snout got in our possession in time, concretely Austrian mountain cannon, design 1863. Together with a caisson and a limber. The gun barrels are tested in the test room.
Our member´s base has been growing recently, the number of cannoneers has stabilized on 9, not counting children and women. We issue journal „Cherokee Mirror“ for circle of our friends.
Our sphere of activity is wide, from common interest for military and civil history, over participation on re-enactor´s meetings, shows for public and for children in summer camps, to „living history“ (life in the same way like in a given historical period). It isn´t only about shooting and arms. Study of period´s resources and getting it into practice in common camp life is often adventurous and funny for present man.
We are free association open for everyone with serious interest for history and we don´t refuse anybody. So ask or even better live through this romantic and rough time again. It isn´t over own experience.
